Book Reviews in a ‘graph

.

This begins a series of book reviews, each one paragraph or so. I expect to update this frequently.

Currently, I’m reading The Topeka School by Ben Lerner, which I highly recommend. From a craft viewpoint, he does an amazing job moving from serial 3rd person close, to first person and back, without losing you. His command of the language and technique is impressive, and the book is both accessible and highly engaging.

Richard Powers

Author of Operation Wandering Soul – a brilliant novel that plays with the language and the culture. Joyce without the stream of consciousness.

Orfeo – a masterpiece of a braided story. His command of his craft is extraordinary (as we know from so many of his books, most notably The Overstory.) I highly recommend both along with his newest: Bewilderment.

Many more to come.
